چکیده

We present Path ORAM, an extremely simple Oblivious RAM protocol with a small amount of client storage. Partly due to its simplicity, Path ORAM is the most practical ORAM scheme known to date with small client storage. We formally prove that Path ORAM has a O(logN) bandwidth cost for blocks of size B = Ω(logN) bits. For such block sizes, Path ORAM is asymptotically better than the best known ORAM schemes with small client storage. Due to its practicality, Path ORAM has been adopted in the design of secure processors since its proposal.

Design space exploration and optimization of path oblivious RAM in secure processors Citation

Keeping user data private is a huge problem both in cloud computing and computation outsourcing. One paradigm to achieve data privacy is to use tamper-resistant processors, inside which users’ private data is decrypted and computed upon. These processors need to interact with untrusted external memory. Even if we encrypt all data that leaves the trusted processor, however, the address sequence ...

Constants Count: Practical Improvements to Oblivious RAM

Oblivious RAM (ORAM) is a cryptographic primitive that hides memory access patterns as seen by untrusted storage. This paper proposes Ring ORAM, the most bandwidth-efficient ORAM scheme for the small client storage setting in both theory and practice. Ring ORAM is the first tree-based ORAM whose bandwidth is independent of the ORAM bucket size, a property that unlocks multiple performance impro...

Externally Verifiable Oblivious RAM

We present the idea of externally verifiable oblivious RAM (ORAM). Our goal is to allow a client and server carrying out an ORAM protocol to have disputes adjudicated by a third party, allowing for the enforcement of penalties against an unreliable or malicious server. We give a security definition that guarantees protection not only against a malicious server but also against a client making f...

Unified Oblivious-RAM: Improving Recursive ORAM with Locality and Pseudorandomness

Oblivious RAM (ORAM) is a cryptographic primitive that hides memory access patterns to untrusted storage. ORAM may be used in secure processors for encrypted computation and/or software protection. While recursive Path ORAM is currently the most practical ORAM for secure processors, it still incurs large performance and energy overhead and is the performance bottleneck of recently proposed secu...

TWORAM: Efficient Oblivious RAM in Two Rounds with Applications to Searchable Encryption

We present TWORAM, an asymptotically efficient oblivious RAM (ORAM) protocol providing oblivious access (read and write) of a memory index y in exactly two rounds: The client prepares an encrypted query encapsulating y and sends it to the server. The server accesses memory M obliviously and returns encrypted information containing the desired value M[y]. The cost of TWORAM is only a multiplicat...
